Disperse Points

Disperse Points disperses points that fall directly on top of each other or are part of a multipoint feature.

In the context of housing applications this feature can be helpful when displaying information for different properties at the same location. For example, consider a building (ringed in red in the following screen shot) that comprises eight individual flats. The individual property information points are overlaid and are therefore difficult to select individually. Using the Disperse Points command these individual property information points can be dispersed at a specified radius around the location of the original points.

There are two methods of using this command:

Method 1 (select information Points)

Select the overlaid points (in the Property Information.bds overlay):

Select the Disperse Points command.

The Disperse Points dialog will be displayed:

Enter the required radius in the current units.

In this example 5 is entered.

Assuming the current units are metres the individual points will now be dispersed at a radius of 5m around the original overlaid points.

The dispersed points will be created on a new overlay named Dispersed Points:

Method 2 (select Polygon)

Select the Polygon in the overlay containing the Property information points (Property.bds), then select the Disperse Points command.

The resizeable Overlays dialog will be displayed in the Map Window.

In the Overlays dialog select the overlay containing the information points, in this example Property Information.bds.

Note: This overlay (Property Information.bds) must be set to Visible or the Disperse Points command will not function.

Click OK on the Overlays dialog.

The dispersed points will be created on a new overlay named Dispersed Points:

Note: With this method the dispersed points will be centred around the selected Polygon and may therefore not be centred around the overlaid points.
